Festival stars return to Glastonbury
Fresh from the triumph that was the 2008 Glastonbury Festival, Michael Eavis promotes the Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza - two evenings of music, fun and fireworks held in the grounds of the historic Abbey – on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th August.
This year Friday night opens with legendary Scottish entertainer, Lulu, still remembered for her iconic chart topping single ‘Shout’. She is a British rarity – a Eurovision Song Contest winner. In a career spanning almost fifty years she also famously recorded the James Bond theme tune The Man with the Golden Gun and more recently sang on Take That’s cover version of Relight My Fire.
Headlining will be new wave legendary songwriters Squeeze – creators of hit songs ‘Cool for cats’ and ‘Up the junction’. In its current incarnation, founding members of the band Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford are joined by Stephen Large, Simon Henson and John Bentley.
After their successes at The Glastonbury Festival 2008, on Saturday 9th, Somerset welcomes back Kate Nash and The Feeling.
Kate Nash, who kicks of Saturday night at the Extravaganza, also opened Glastonbury Festival 2008 to a record crowd with an early morning set on the Pyramid Stage. She mainly performed tracks from her debut album 'Made Of Bricks' and with ‘Foundations’ had the first Glastonbury sing-along of 2008. It was a great set leaving everyone happy. Dublin born Kate Nash is best known for her cockney indiepoprock, and was voted Best Female Artist at this year’s BRIT Awards.
The Feeling also played the Pyramid Stage this year, and their audience partied throughout the set to their accurately executed harmonic hits, particularly during the revival of A-Ha’s crowd-pleaser Take On Me. They return to headline the Saturday evening concert. You’ll recognise many of the songs by this BRIT award-nominated, guitar-based, soft rock band - from ‘Fill my Little World’ and ‘Never be Lonely’ to the unforgettable ‘I love it when you call’. They were presented the Ivor Novello award for songwriters this year. Their new album has been described as where ‘jaunty boogie woogie pianos give way to rollicking metal guitar solos’.
Sitting back, relaxing in the shadow of the Tor, picnicking with family and friends, listening to wonderful performances, on a warm August night. It doesn’t get any better. Don’t forget your dancing shoes!
